Kaohsiung Medical University Department of Oral Hygiene

English Program

1.        Purpose of Establishment

As a key institution selected for the Ministry of Education’s “The Program on Bilingual Education for Students in College” Kaohsiung Medical University will officially establish the Undergraduate English Program in the 115th academic year.

The program aims to take the lead in cultivating internationally oriented professionals by providing a comprehensive English-medium learning environment. Through enhancing students’ language proficiency alongside their professional medical competence, it helps them build a strong foundation for further studies and career development, while opening broader prospects for advancement in the field of oral hygiene.

2.        English Program Features and Learning Resources

l   Dual-track training in professional competence and English proficiency

This program cultivates both oral hygiene expertise and English proficiency through an integrated curriculum that combines medical knowledge with English instruction. Rather than learning English as a separate subject, students learn their profession through English, enhancing their ability to succeed in global academic and clinical environments.

l   Selected required professional courses are taught entirely in English

In this program, selected required professional courses are delivered entirely in English, aiming to enhance students’ listening and speaking skills as well as their ability to express professional knowledge effectively. Students are also trained to communicate confidently and effectively in English within clinical and healthcare settings.

l   An internationally oriented learning approach

Through exchange programs with partner universities, students are provided with opportunities for overseas internships and clinical observation. The program also encourages participation in international exchanges and academic conferences, enabling students to stay informed about global trends in oral hygiene. By fostering a global perspective in healthcare, the program enhances students’ practical skills and workplace readiness, going beyond a purely theory-based education.

l   small class size

To improve learning effectiveness and maintain high teaching quality, small-class instruction is implemented during the program’s initial stage, alongside a mentorship system that offers students comprehensive academic advising and support.
